My own involvement in fluid mechanics started at Bristol in the 1970s when we designed various extensional flow devices for studying the effect of flow on stretching polymer chains. Later, at Sussex University I collaborated with a Dr Graeme Knott on wave energy systems and from this, the concept of Oscillatory Flow Mixing (OFM) emerged and is illustrated on the movie clip for this page.
In this section photographs and presentations of centro symmetric flow devices are described with relevance to polymer chain stretching.
