Fluid mechanics
Fluid Mechanics is one of the great Science and Engineering subjects that has benefited from the emergence of numerical computer technology. A one page introduction to Fluid mechanics is given in the pdf below
An introduction to the world of Fluid Mechanics (.pdf)
My own involvement in fluid mechanics started at Bristol in the 1970s when we designed various extensional flow devices for studying the effect of flow on stretching polymer chains. Later, at Sussex University I collaborated with a Dr Graeme Knott on wave energy systems and from this, the concept of Oscillatory Flow Mixing (OFM) emerged and is illustrated on the movie clip for this page.
Extensional Flow
In this section photographs and presentations of centro symmetric flow devices are described with relevance to polymer chain stretching.
Oscillatory Flow Mixing
The scientific and fluid mechanics aspects of oscillatory flow mixing are described through presentations, photographs and movies.
